Author: John Dalrymple
Title: Pathology of the Human Eye
Description: Book is Good in no dust jacket. Half leather binding, First Edition, John Churchill, London, 1852. An institutional copy with decals of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland library. The library recently de-accessioned a number of repair-challenged rare volumes in order to raise funds to concentrate on other priorities. In this case a tear across half the title page, a crease to the flyleaf, and general wear/splitting to the hinges of the leather. We have done some work to stabilise these, keeping all the original binding and adding nothing but leather food and glue. The binding is not threatening to come apart and the inner chords, etc are quite strong and still and able to support the text block as long as handled respectfully. The chromo-lithograph plates are in good order with embossed library decals on each one (yes, each plate is a work in itself and worth this extra protection from excision) Tissue guards intact, some foxing near endpapers and occasional marks throughout, not affecting plate colour/detail areas. Considerable wear to boards, esp. at corners. The friable card has been stabilised at the corners. Leather spine label has cracked appearance but mostly intact and readable. Cloth marbled boards have been tacked down where frayed at edges, the binding looks much better than when it came in, with a large flap at spine top now repaired. Unpaginated text, the format is 36 single sided chromo-plates, each with tissue guard and accompanying double sided, double column text explanation page. Size Folio
