Description: Book is Very Good in no dust jacket. Hardcover binding, 2nd Edition, John Murray, London, 1892. Sound and well preserved 1892 2nd edition (11th thousand) in publisher's green cloth. Gilt on spine moderately faded, still clear. Text block free of foxing or inscriptions or folds with plates in good order, tissue guard still present on one plate. Some tanning to page edges, evenly so and about expected for age. Inscription crossed out on fly, dated July '93, no adverts at rear, replacement inscription dated 1927. Front endpaper has minor cracking in the gutter, rear one OK. Minor dampstain on extreme edge/corner at top of endpaper, corresponding splash marks on extreme corner of front board, hard to notice as no discolouration. Moderate wear at spine ends, worn away spot 3mm at spine base. Hinge cloth rubbed but no splitting or fraying. Rest of boards uniform dark green with only minor shelf rubbing. Overall a pleasing problem free copy with a good provenance as it is signed by R W (Ralph) Pickford, professor of Psychology at Glasgow University.

Shame about the missing plates otherwise still a restoration project for a lover of early children's books. Many colour plates of stick cartoon style. Miniature book, 3-1/2 by 5 inches.
